Andrographis - Herbal Treatment
In late December 2021, the Thai government announced that it had officially approved the use of this Asian herb, also known as Andrographis, to successfully treat a variety of illnesses and conditions. The plant has been used in traditional Thai medicine for hundreds of years. This is not an original Thai remedy, however; the Andrographis root has been used as a medicinal tonic for hundreds of years in China. It is only in the last few years that medical science has become interested in using it for patients. The health benefits of Andrographis are becoming well-known in Western countries, too.
This herb comes from a large family of plants in the Andrographis genus. One branch is Andrographis panniculatus, which has been shown to have some strong anti-inflammatory properties. In clinical studies, it has shown anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and analgesic effects. This is probably due to the fact that the herb has many thousands of alkaloids, which are powerful natural pain relievers.
How to use Andrographis: You might find that there are different ways to take this herb depending on what you are trying to achieve. The two main methods of use are through smoking or drinking. If you are smoking the herb, it will act as a powerful stimulant. This can increase your alertness and energy levels for several hours after you have finished smoking. However, if you are drinking the tea, you will experience no immediate effects. Instead, you will begin to notice the gradual effects beginning to happen.
What are the possible side effects? Andrographis can have some very serious side effects, especially if it is taken without care. These include the following: increased heartbeat, seizures, confusion, convulsions, dilated pupils, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and more. If these symptoms start occurring, you should discontinue use immediately and contact a doctor. Do not take Andrographis with any other herbal teas, medications, or even over the counter medicines.
Can Andrographis alleviate my symptoms? The short answer to that is yes, it can. It is often used in conjunction with other herbs, especially St. John's Wort and Matricaria recutita, which can also reduce anxiety and increase vitality. It is also believed that Dioscorea may help reduce symptoms of depression, fatigue, and hot flashes.
Can Andrographis prevent other problems from happening? Andrographis can be helpful for other health conditions such as anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, migraine headaches, fibromyalgia, stress, palpitations, urinary disorders, allergies, and skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis. It is also believed to be helpful in menopausal replacement therapy, and in cardiac arrhythmia. However, these claims are not proven. Andrographis may also help women get pregnant when taken before they begin their menstrual cycle.
How should I take Andrographis? When using Andrographis you should take it roughly three hours before you plan to go to sleep. You should also take it about one hour before and after meals. You should not take Andrographis with alcoholic beverages. This may cause severe side effects.
Can I be safe if I take Andrographis? Yes, you should not have any side effects. It does contain caffeine, so it is important not to drink coffee, tea, or chocolate, which can have caffeine. There are very few side effects when using this product, but you should consult your pharmacist before starting a program using Andrographis.
How many side effects come about? None, this is mostly harmless. But there are some things you should avoid. If you are pregnant, or breast feeding, avoid taking Andrographis.
Can I have a fungal infection while taking Andrographis? Yes, you can have a fungal infection. This happens only with Andrographis, not with any other natural remedies. As a matter of fact, the side effects will make you want to continue your treatments.
